Andamento climatico

Una delle migliori annate degli ultimi vent’anni. L’intero ciclo vegetativo della vite si è svolto nelle migliori condizioni climatiche. Ad un inverno caratterizzato da piogge abbondanti e da temperature rigide, è seguita una primavera asciutta con temperature leggermente sopra la media che hanno permesso un germogliamento omogeneo e una fioritura ideale. I mesi estivi hanno registrato poche ma importanti piogge che hanno reso possibile una gestione fitosanitaria sostenibile e rispettosa dell’ambiente. Giornate soleggiate e calde con ottime escursioni termiche hanno portato i grappoli a fine settembre alle condizioni ideali: acini completamente sani e acidità alte nonostante il grado zuccherino elevato. La raccolta del Sangiovese, conclusasi entro la fine del mese, ha consegnato uve perfettamente sane e dalla buccia molto spessa, premessa per lunghe macerazioni e vini dal grande potenziale evolutivo.

Lush and fruity, featuring plum, cherry, strawberry and iron aromas and flavors. Bright acidity and dense tannins form the structure as this plays out on the long finish. Firmly structured, this opens with aromas of underbrush, exotic spice and whiffs of eucalyptus oil. The firm palate evokes black-cherry extract, orange zest, licorice and tobacco set against assertive, close-grained tannins that leave a rather austere, drying finish. Give it time to fully unwind. Intensives, funkelndes Rubin mit Granatrand. Sehr dichte und einladende Nase, Noten nach reifen Zwetschken, Lakritze und getrockneten Steinpilzen. Füllt den Gaumen satt aus, zeigt dabei aber nicht nur Fülle, sondern auch viel Saft und Eleganz, ein sehr geschliffener, eleganter Brunello, langer Nachhall.

Full ruby-red. Deep aromas of medicinal dark fruits are lifted by a lovely violet topnote. Full, rich and ripe, with seamless red cherry, blueberry and mineral flavors give a firm edge by a whisper of licorice and herbs. Finishes with good breadth and very fine tannins. Fruitdriven with hints of white pepper, straightforward and clean aromas, black plums, slowly opens up, nicely kept fruit, the mature but yet powerful tannins lines like a frame around the fresh fruit where cherries and black plums shoots to the stars with the fresh acidity. A full yet balanced wine. Just like the one who knows when to stop talking yet has so much more to say.

James Suckling

A mix of cherry, plum, leather, rosemary, iron and tobacco flavors ply the sleek profile of this balanced red, which has good grip and a lingering savory aftertaste. Best from 2024 through 2045. 150 cases imported. –BS

Falstaff

San Polo's Podernovi vineyard is a 3ha southeast-facing parcel with mineral-rich marly soil. The grapes were harvested at the beginning of October and the wine aged in lightly toasted 40-hectolitre casks. This comes across as more oak-driven than its sibling, with wood spice and sweet vanilla coating soft, round, layered fruit. Though the tannins are still rather chewy, the flavours are already relatively evolved, suggesting this will give the most pleasure over the next few years.
