Brunello di Montalcino
DOCG
Brunello is a red wine of great power and elegance, the ultimate expression of Sangiovese. In Montalcino it is characterized by its reddish-brown colour and intense aromas and flavours.
At San Polo, the Allegrini estate in Montalcino, our Brunello is the fruit of tremendous love and respect for the land and a wine based on strong ethics, quality, and sustainability.
Climate trend
Vintage 2011 had a slow start with a cool spring and frequent showers. The lower than average temperatures for the time of year continued until July and up until that point the vintage could easily have been considered a cool one. However, from mid-August through to the beginning of September, high pressure over the African continent brought temperatures well above 38°C (100°F). Fortunately, at San Polo the vines were able to access sufficient water reserves to avoid stress. These conditions were completely different to the intense hot weather of 2003 and the overall cool weather in 2002: this vintage is more similar to vintage 2000, which started in a similar way, with generally lower temperatures followed by a short but intense increase in temperature during August.

Lots of cherries and dried fruits with hints of orange peel on the nose. Full body, round and velvety tannins and a juicy finish. So much fruit and richness. Shows the warmth of the vintage

Vini d'Italia del Gambero Rosso
You can see from the Poggio San Polo 2012 Brunello di Montalcino that this vintage produced wines of gorgeous color intensity and appearance. It shows a saturated ruby color with garnet highlights that is very characteristic of Sangiovese from this warm growing season. This expression is aged in large barrel and tonneaux for two years. The bouquet delivers dark fruit aromas, leather and spice.
James Suckling
Elegant and intense, this tightly coiled red offers strawberry, cherry and spice flavors. Shows good grip on the finish, where tobacco and mineral elements emerge. Best from 2017 through 2028. 6,000 cases made.
Guida Oro i Vini di Veronelli
Bright red. Crisp and bright aromas and flavours of red berries and gunflint. Supple on entry with flavors of red fruit and botanical herbs, then tight and vinous on the back with the acidity and tough tannins rising sharply. Cellaring might help soften this Brunello a tad.
