Brunello di Montalcino
DOCG
Brunello is a red wine of great power and elegance, the ultimate expression of Sangiovese. In Montalcino it is characterized by its reddish-brown colour and intense aromas and flavours.
At San Polo, the Allegrini estate in Montalcino, our Brunello is the fruit of tremendous love and respect for the land and a wine based on strong ethics, quality, and sustainability.
Climate trend
Vintage 2009 was characterized by quite distinct phases. In the spring, during the early vegetative development of the vines, considerable rainfall allowed for an accumulation of water reserves to be used to relieve the rather hot and dry summer months. September was mild, with very satisfactory variations in daytime and night-time temperatures.
Ripening progressed in a uniform fashion, producing prime quality grapes. Alcohol levels were rather high with optimal degrees of total acidity and extracts. The polyphenol content was substantial and qualitatively well balanced.

Juicy dark cherries, rose petals, savory herbs, mint and wild flowers are all woven together nicely in the 2010 Brunello di Montalcino. Succulent and forward, the 2010 drinks well today, but it also has the depth to develop nicely for at least a few more years. Silky tannins support the round, supple finish. The fruit-driven, middle of the road style is sure to find many admirersWine Advocate
Extremely floral aromas with lots of plum and berry character. Full body, firm and silky tannins. Builds on the palate. Gorgeous and vivid fruit. Polished and refined.Vini d'Italia del Gambero Rosso
Mid ruby with orange tinges. Opulent cherry with fruitcake notes. Already very accessible but acidity prevents it from becoming overtly sweet, while the bitter tannins give a nice contrast to the dense fruit. (WS)Jancis Robinson
“Sweet cherry, plum, licorice and wild herb aromas and flavors mingle in this supple, juicy red. Layered and complex, with elegance and a mineral-tinged aftertaste. Shows excellent harmony and expression.”James Suckling
Aromas include ripe red and black fruit, spice, mint, espresso and oak. The palate is extremely soft and forward, showing mature black plum, toast, coffee and vanilla extract alongside evolved tannins. Reflecting the hot vintage, it lacks energy for the long term so enjoy over the next few yearsInternational Wine Cellar
Poggio San Polo's 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is a beautiful wine with a deep sense of aromatic purity and complexity. The bouquet delivers characteristic tones of small berry, forest floor, pressed violets, sweet spice, licorice and cola. Those aromas are both pure and intense, and build in momentum as the wine takes on more air in the glass. This is a fantastic effort with a mouthfeel that is as delicate and light as its it is meaningful and long-lasting. The overall effect is one of elegance and finesse. This is a highly recommendable achievement from a classic vintage. Open this bottle after 2017.Guida Vitae - AIS
Rubino intenso e luminoso.

Oak, herb, fennel, hay and wild berry aromas lead the nose. The firm palate offers Morello cherry, oak, cinnamon, clove, Mediterranean herb with a confectionary note alongside tightly knit and austere tannins that need time to unwind.Annuario dei Migliori Vini Italiani di Luca Maroni
