A new vineyard, where clay reigns supreme, the youngest and most surprising agronomic project of the San Polo estate.

This vineyard is home to the youngest agronomic project in San Polo. The soil’s composition includes a large percentage of clay, which delivers great vigour to the vines. It is precisely for this reason we have decided to plant a Sangiovese clone that is not considered to be particularly vigorous in order to avoid berries lacking concentrated aromas and properties. We decided to plant the first seven rows with moscato bianco used for the late-harvest production Moscadello di Montalcino DOC, a historic Montalcino wine since 1500: a veritable tribute to tradition, requiring a great deal of research on the part of oenologist Riccardo Fratton. Moscato bianco is an aromatic grape varietal; it matures early and does not like water stress. It grows very well in soils rich in clay and the grapes ripen well without requiring particularly warm or dry conditions.
