San Polo Diario della Vendemmia / Harvest Diary / 2020 30 Eccoci oggi alle prese con il primo dei nostri cru: Podernovi , il vigneto di fronte alla guest house che, grazie a vinificazioni selettive portate avanti in cantina nel corso degli ultimi anni, ci ha manifestato la sua inconfondibile personalità. Il suolo di questo appezzamento, particolarmente argilloso e compatto, tende a trattenere molta acqua. Ecco perché il sovescio, qui praticato, composto da un mix a base di brassicacee tra le quali predomina la senape, si è rivelato molto utile per l’azione disgregante e il conseguente buon arieggiamento del suolo, consentendo all’acqua di drenare in profondità. In questo tipo di suolo l’uva matura anticipatamente rispetto ad altri appezzamenti. Qui, in particolar modo, è stato fondamentale il diradamento, per poter controllare la vigoria del vigneto. I grappoli che oggi abbiamo di fronte a noi sono bellissimi e sani, con acini turgidi e succosi. Here we are today, grappling with the first of our crus: Podernovi , the vineyard in front of the guest house which, thanks to selective vinification carried out in the winery over the last few years, has shown us its unmistakable personality. The particularly clayey and compact soil in this plot tends to retain a lot of water. This is why the green manure we use here, composed of a mix based on brassicas, with predominant mustards, has proved very useful for breaking down the soil and facilitating consequent good aeration, allowing the water to drain deep down. In this type of soil, the grapes ripen earlier than in other plots. Here, in particular, thinning was fundamental in containing the vigour of the vineyard. The bunches that we have in front of us today are beautiful and healthy, with plump, juicy berries.
