Nel caso del 2019, a Montalcino, questo elemento distintivo è stato sicuramente il cambiamento. È stata una stagione discontinua, mutevole, dall’inizio alla fine, che è partita come annata precoce ed è finita come annata tardiva. Una stagione che, all’inizio, ci ha fatto un po’ preoccupare, per poi lasciarci, alla fine, grandi soddisfazioni. A causa di un inverno particolare, rigido all’inizio e mite verso la fine, il germogliamento è stato abbastanza precoce, mentre la crescita vegetativa iniziale è stata lenta a causa della poca acqua presente nei terreni. Nel mese di maggio, piogge abbondanti e temperature sotto la media hanno rallentato la crescita, annullando l’anticipo vegetativo iniziale, fino ad arrivare ad accumulare circa 2 settimane di ritardo rispetto ad una stagiona canonica. In the case of 2019, in Montalcino, this distinctive element was certainly change. It turned out to be discontinuous and changing year from beginning to end, starting as an early vintage and ending as a late vintage. At the beginning, we felt a bit worried, but by the end it was a source of great satisfaction. Due to an unusual winter that was harsh at the beginning and mild towards the end, budding was quite early, while the initial vegetative growth was slow due to the soil’s scarce water reserves. In the month of May, abundant rainfall and below-average temperatures slowed down growth, cancelling out the initial vegetative advance, and thereby accumulating a delay of about 2 weeks compared with the average season. The beginning of June coincided with the beginning of summer, with clear weather and high temperatures continuing day on day until August which was marked by cooler temperatures and some rain that was useful for replenishing the land’s water reserves. This uneven trend continued until the harvest, which turned out to be one of the latest in recent years. We harvested in various phases, trying to adapt to nature’s desire to change, which represents the essence of the winemaker’s work. Every season is different, every year the decisions to be made change, but the goal remains the same: to produce great wines that respect the land and the rhythms of nature. Now the grapes are safely in the winery, the first fermentations are coming to an end and we are starting to evaluate the first results. I have to say that they are very encouraging: the season made us work fast but our efforts are rewarded by wines that seem to be excellent, leaving us with a smile on our faces as think back on this unusual vintage. stato caratterizzato da temperature più fresche e da qualche pioggia, utile a rimpinguare le riserve idriche dei terreni. Questo andamento ondivago si è protratto fino alla vendemmia, che è risultata essere una delle più tardive degli ultimi anni. Abbiamo raccolto in vari passaggi, cercando di adattarci alla voglia di cambiare che la natura ha manifestato, e che rappresenta l’essenza del lavoro del viticoltore. Ogni stagione è diversa, ogni anno le decisioni da prendere cambiano, ma l’obbiettivo rimane sempre lo stesso: produrre grandi vini che siano rispettosi del territorio e dei ritmi della natura. Adesso le uve sono al sicuro in cantina, le prime fermentazioni stanno finendo e stiamo iniziando a valutare i primi risultati. Devo dire che sono molto incoraggianti: la stagione ci ha fatto correre ma gli sforzi vengono ripagati da vini che si stanno mostrando ottimi, lasciandoci un sorriso in volto nel ripensare a questa stagione così particolare.
