Today we will select the shoots, a few weeks later than it was usually done in the past. This is because we have witnessed true climate change in recent years; frequent spring frosts in the Montalcino area have forced us to postpone various work in the vineyard year after year. Winter pruning took place late in order to discourage the vines from sprouting too early and when the cold could still return. We also delayed the selection of the vine shoots in order to allow the plants time to start their vegetation cycle again after the stress from the cold. It has become increasingly important to organize work in the vineyards according to mother nature.
